Since this is a memoir, my early life is covered in the first few chapters. I’ve gone on to marriage, motherhood, grand motherhood, all the while practicing my craft to the best of my ability.
I’ve managed to write and publish PULSE, a novel, and have written BYZANTIUM, a novella, A PICTUREBOOK ON THE WALL, the memoir described in the synopsis, and a collection of short stories, SOMETHING HIDDEN, many of which were published in literary journals. Along the way I have attended University of Chicago Alumni classes (though I went to Northwestern University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism), Great Books twice, the Institute of Psychoanalysis where I took a course entitled “Psychoanalysis and the Novel” and assorted classes in Russian, French, American and other classical authors. I worked in New York after graduation, episodes described in the memoir, and when I came home to Chicago, did assorted journalism jobs for local newspapers and also wrote advertising copy at an agency, ending up in the ENCYCLOPAEDIA BRITANNICA editorial department after getting married.
